Baptism

Water Baptism at Grace Family

We celebrate your salvation story and are excited that you are considering baptism! Before you sign up for water baptism, please read the information below and scripture references. This will help you understand our theological position on baptism and also help you make an informed decision about being water baptized.

What is Water Baptism?

Simply put, baptism is an act of obedience for the believer in Jesus Christ. It is a symbol of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection and of your new life as a Christian.

"We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life" Romans 6:4

Water baptism does not make you a believer and it is not a means of salvation, as only faith in Christ's work on the cross has the power to save. Rather, baptism is like a wedding ring, an outward symbol of the commitment you have already made.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Ephesians 2:8-10

Common Baptism Questions & Biblical Answers

Who should be baptized?

Anyone who has repented of their sins and believed in Jesus Christ (Acts 2:41, Acts 8:12-13).

When are we baptized?

As soon as possible after you become a believer! (Acts 8:35-38)

Why should I be baptized?

Because Christ commanded it (Matthew 28:18-19).

Because baptism shows you’re a believer (Acts 18:8).

Because obeying Christ gives evidence that you know Him (1 John 2:3).

How does baptism take place?

By full immersion in water, just as Jesus was baptized (Matthew 3:16).

We have an onsite baptismal pool in the main sanctuary so the church family can celebrate with you.

Can my child be baptized?

We understand that children can make a genuine profession of faith in Christ and we celebrate when they do. However, it is very important  that the person being baptized is intellectually and spiritually mature enough to understand the concepts of personal sin, repentance and forgiveness.

We believe water baptism is to be a once in a lifetime event; therefore, we encourage believing children to wait until they are 13 or older to be baptized. That said, if your child is under that age and is interested in being baptized, please click on the link below and go through the material with your child to determine if they’re ready to be water baptized
